The Data Science Institute’s mission is to advance education and research in the data sciences for industries that grow, manage, harvest, and utilize wood and fiber resources. The ‘Data Science Institute’ (UTDSI) is housed within the University of Tennessee School of Natural Resources (SNR). UTDSI will apply concepts of data science, machine learning, and AI for the advanced optimization of processes to improve profitability of businesses through variation reduction and costs savings from sustainable target size reductions.
Focus areas will be:
- Industry-focused webinars, training, and workshops in data analytics, machine learning, and AI
- Direct applications in manufacturing of data science, machine learning, and AI
- Student education
Members will have the opportunity to interact with UT SNR faculty, staff, and students and attend an annual conference at UT for education and in-person networking. Member companies will be able to engage in confidential research projects with graduate student support. An executive board will govern the Institute.
